The generals finally push back
The Bush administration has been ratcheting up the rhetoric about Iran lately, even offering ‘proof’ of Iranian involvement in the Bush-made mess of Iraq. It’s been clear since Bush offered up his “Axis of Evil” speech that Iran was on notice for invasion. And Bush would have invaded Iran by now if Iraq turned out the way he wanted it to. He wanted to attack Iran back in 2005 and there was even rumblings that he planned on using tactical nukes.
Seymour Hersh has written about the administration’s plans. He has also written about the military getting fed up with the administration. The Bush is willing to commit forces and use force that the top generals in the pentagon disagreed with. It seems as if we’re starting to see that push back.
Marine Gen. Pace, the Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff, the highest ranking military officer in the United States, has cast doubts on the administrations evidence. Pace takes a more nuanced view of the situation. He knows that explosives are indeed coming from Iran, but he’s skeptical that the Iranian government is involved.
It seems as if the military is finally tired of catching bullets for nothing while he and his neocon friends plan war after unwinnable war.
