War All the Time: The Persecuted Megalomaniacs
Rev. Rick Scarborough, a Christian preacher, organized a conference called “The War on Christians and the Values Voter in 2006” to rile up Christians and get them out to the polls in November. But Christians should beware of these so called “values.”
Republicans have masterfully used devout Christians to further their politics of fear and exclusion. Christians, one should remember, are the majority in this country and promoting this idea of a war against them is blatant fear mongering. Bush and his Republicans have seen their support slipping away, many conservative voters are thinking about avoiding the polls all together this November. Republicans know that a failure to turn out the Christian vote will be detrimental to their hopes of keeping a majority in congress, keeping the president from being impeached or censured. Something must be done.
So let’s fire up this fickle base. Gays are getting married again! Our society allows the murder of millions of innocent babies! Secularists in the universities and media have declared war on our values!! These headlines, Republicans know, will lure Christians to the voting booths like bugs to the zapper.
Christians, wake the fuck up! These power hungry, money loving Republican demons do not represent you. They’re lying to you, fooling you, and laughing all the way to the bank.
Tom Delay was one of the speakers at this conference. Tom Delay, the man who just lost his position as majority leader in the house after being indicted in Texas and who’s close friend, Jack Abramoff, has just been sentenced to six years in prison for fraud, was the keynote speaker for a conference dealing with values voters? Scarborough had this to say about the indicted Delay: “This is a man, I believe, God has appointed … to represent righteousness in government.” Seriously? Then he went on to compare Delay to Jesus Christ: “God always does his best work after a crucifixion.”
Jesus “The Hammer” Christ? I don’t think so.
